So; what do you think?  Do you need talent to be truly good at drawing/similar activities? Or do you just need to put in an ungodly amount of practice?

Talent hardly exists. It's about the practice you get. Sometimes we mistake practicing, or even maturity [like hand-eye coordination development] for talent- happens all the time. My brother, for instance, was born in November, so he was held back a year in school and, now that he was a year older than everyone else, had an advantage over them because he had learned how to read and write already and so, maturity was mistaken for talent and intelligence, and as a result he was put into gifted and talented programs, got more practice, got even MORE ahead of the gang, etc. etc.
